Shaler and Hampton had to play each other in a section game on a Saturday at Shaler High School. The home team, Shaler, ended up victorious winning by a score of 44-38. Senior Mekhi Reynolds scored 15 points for Shaler while Ben Ringeisen scored 19 points for Hampton. Shaler improves their section record to 4-0 while for Hampton that was their first section loss.
It is horrible that Central Valley basketball player, Isiah Warfield, cannot play in the WPIAL Boys Basketball playoffs this season, if his team makes it. He is leading the Warriors to wins as they defeated Blackhawk by a score of 67-58. Warfield scored 22 points in the game as the Warriors now have an overall record of 6-3. Just last year, their overall record was 7-14. A difference that one player can make to a team is just amazing.
Shelton Carney scored 26 points for Butler in a 78-46 win against Wheeling Central Catholic in the Cancer Research Classic. Ethan Morton only scored 11 points in the game for Butler, but people can tell that when Morton is active for the team, the whole team feels more comfortable playing.
Tim Murray's Burgettstown's Boys basketball team lost to Weir in the Chuckie Mahoney Classic by a score of 54-52.
Canon-McMillan had no problem defeating Washington as the score was 49-24. This was the third win on the season for the Big Macs. Washington, a team that has a 3-0 section record and 6-3 overall record, lost to a team that has a higher classification than them. Even though Washington got smacked, do not expect this to be a total collapse for their team.
Trinity continues to win by defeating Chartiers-Houston by a score of 69-26. Senior Michael Koroly scored 17 points for the Hillers.
If Isaac DeGregorio wants to win a WPIAL basketball championship, now is the time to do that. His North Catholic basketball team defeated Vincentian by a score of 77-67. Isaac scored 25 points in the game as the team's overall record is now 9-2. Isaac is now a senior and played his first two years of WPIAL basketball at Hampton High School before transferring to North Catholic before his junior year of high school which was last year.
Penn Hills defeated Aliquippa by a score of 94-66. To me, Penn Hills is a team that can definitely win the WPIAL 5A Boys basketball championship this season. Kyree Mitchell scored 17 points for Penn Hills while Penn State football recruit, Zuriah Fisher, scored 20 points for the Quips.
Deamontae Diggs scored 18 points for McKeesport in the team's 75-47 loss over Highlands. Luke Cochran led Highlands in scoring in this game with 21 points. Highlands have won their seventh straight game as their overall record is now 10-1.
Baldwin found a way to beat Serra Catholic by a score of 83-43.
Chartiers Valley went to Florida to participate in the Lehigh Shootout Tournament and they lost to Lehigh High School, located in Florida, by a score of 70-54. Senior Jared Goldstrom led the Colts with 19 points.
Springdale is no longer undefeated as they lost to Shady Side Academy by a score of 63-56. Grady Munroe scored 24 points for Shady Side Academy. Springdale's overall record is now 10-1. You could say that Springdale probably did not think that their first loss would be to Shady Side, but oh well.
After the officials blew a call that made West Allegheny lose to South Fayette by a score of 71-70 on Friday, the Indians defeated Perry by a score of 70-58 on Saturday. Jackson Faulk led the Indians with 26 points.
After losing to Gateway on Friday, Laurel Highlands came back and defeated Connellsville on Saturday by a score of 53-51. Rodney Gallagher scored 15 points for the Mustangs.
