Let's Go On An Adventure To The Liberty Bell
Well if you watch any of the four major sports in the United States in the NBA, NFL, NHL and MLB you know that the Philadelphia sports teams from each league has not been doing so well lately. It doesn't look like the professional baseball team the Philadelphia Phillies are going into the playoffs this year since they currently have the worst record in the National League at 39-65. The professional hockey team the Philadelphia Flyers didn't make the playoffs last season as they were ranked sixth in the Metropolitan Division and were seven points out of getting a Wild Card spot. The professional basketball team the Philadelphia 76ers didn't make the playoffs either last season as they had the fourth worst record in the NBA at 28-54. Also, the professional football team the Philadelphia Eagles didn't make the playoffs as well finishing last in the NFC East with a 7-9 record and even started out the season with a 3-0 record. So as you can see the Philadelphia sports team aren't doing good at all and this makes the Philadelphia sports fans disappointed.
But their is hope for these four Philadelphia sports teams as they all have the capability to do better and perhaps make the playoffs next year. The Philadelphia Eagles seem like they can be the team in Philadelphia that can improve the most next season. With the additions of Torrey Smith and Alshon Jeffery the wide receiver core for the Eagles is going to be stacked. Especially with Jordan Matthews getting better as well. This makes it easier for Carson Wentz to find more wide open guys. A lot of people say that NFL quarterbacks do worst in their sophomore year than they do in their rookie year but Carson Wentz just doesn't seem like he can do worst with better wide receivers that are experienced and a better running back behind him that just won a Super Bowl last season. Yeah that's right LeGarrette Blount who just won a Super Bowl last season with the Patriots is now on the Eagles this year and it's good for the Eagles because they need players who know how to work hard to get to the Super Bowl. Torrey Smith also won a Super Bowl with the Ravens in 2013 so that's another player who knows how to work hard to get to the Big Dance. The Eagles still have a decent defense too with Chris Long on the defensive line and Rodney McLeod and Malcolm Jenkins controlling the secondary. The Eagles might not win the NFC East this season with the Cowboys and Giants still stacked this season but if they all stick around for 2018 they would have a great shot to win the division.
With a lot of NBA players moving out west this offseason the east is getting weaker and a lot of media think that 76ers could make the playoffs believe it or not. With the 76ers drafting Markelle Fultz with the number one pick they have a point guard that can stay healthy and score perhaps 25 points per game if he can adjust to the NBA quickly. Also with the additions of JJ Redick and Amir Johnson they have players who have had playoff experience and are at least 30 years old. Most of the other 76er players are under 26 years old. JJ's been to the playoffs playing for the Magic and Clippers and Amir's been to the playoffs playing for the Raptors and Celtics. If Ben Simmons, Jahlil Okafor, Joel Embiid and TJ McConnell all can stay healthy throughout the whole season this team can be nice. The problem is that the 76ers have trouble all staying healthy together. If the 76ers just trust the process slowly they can make the playoffs with more players in the East perhaps moving to the West like Carmelo Anthony maybe moving to the Rockets and Kyrie Irving maybe moving to the Timberwolves or Spurs.
What the Philadelphia Flyers got this offseason that automatically gives them a chance to go to the playoffs is adding goalie Brian Elliott. Brian has been with the Blues since 2011 and all six seasons that Brian was with the Blues they made the playoffs each season and he had a winning percentage record each season. This shows that Brian has playoff experience and can help turn the goaltending around for the Flyers. With Claude Giroux and Wayne Simmonds getting hungrier to win a cup and Valtteri Filppula playing a full season with the Flyers this year this makes a team that know they cannot afford to not make the playoffs. Even with the Flyers drafting Nolan Patrick with the second overall pick in this year's draft they have a center who can become a star in years to come. Besides Nolan scored 102 points in 72 games during the regular season for his WHL team in 2015-16. Don't tell me that's not impressive.
The Philadelphia Phillies on the other hand actually have a lot of work to do still. It didn't help that they traded their best pitcher in Jeremy Hellickson during this year's trade deadline but this move shows that they are in a rebuild mode and they will be fine if they won't get to the playoffs for the next 2 maybe even 3 years. With good and popular baseball players like Jimmy Rollins, Chase Utley, Ryan Howard and Carlos Ruiz helping the Phillies win a World Series in 2008 and going back to the World Series again in 2009 it can be hard to replace them. But for right now if you're a Philadelphia Sports fan you should be patient and trust that things can be better.
