Patrick Star is a Star but Patrick Mahomes II is about to be a big time star.
Whether you like it or not Patrick Mahomes II is the future of the Kansas City Chiefs. Patrick was a literal beast in college when he played for three years at Texas Tech. During Patrick's sophomore year in 2015 he played 13 games and passed for 4,653 yards. During his junior year last year he only played 12 games but passed for 5,052 yards which is spectacular.
The Kansas City Chiefs are definitely looking into the future as they drafted Patrick 10th overall in the first round of the NFL Draft this past May. Alex Smith on the other hand might perhaps have one more year in Kansas City as he can opt out of his contract in 2018 or simply could just be released. Throughout the past 4 years that Alex Smith has been in Kansas City he's been to the playoffs 3 out of the 4 years but has not been able to get the Chiefs to the AFC Championship game.
This perhaps could be the last chance for Alex Smith to prove that he is the quarterback for the Kansas City Chiefs as he has not been able to lead the Chiefs that the Kansas City front office thought he would do. In Patrick's first preseason game this past Friday against the San Francisco 49ers he was 7/9, threw for 49 yards and threw a touchdown. The amount of cheers Patrick got when he first entered the field on Friday was electric. I've never heard the crowd in Arrowhead yell so loud for one person as they did for Patrick.
It's obvious that Chiefs fans really want Patrick to play and start. If Alex Smith ever did get injured during this season they'll have a very good person to fill in for him in Patrick Mahomes ll. I expect in four years years for Patrick to be one of the top five quarterbacks in the league cause of the confidence he has and the way he can work from the inside of the pocket and the outside of the pocket.
