The New Commentator Pairings For CBS and Fox
CBS Commentator Pairings For 2017
1. Jim Nantz, Tony Romo and Tracy Wolfson
2. Ian Eagle, Dan Fouts and Evan Washburn
3. Greg Gumbel. Trent Green and Jamie Erdahl
4. Kevin Harlan and Rich Gannon
5. Andrew Catalon and James Lofton
6. Spero Dedes and Adam Archuleta
7. Tom McCarthy, Steve Tasker and Steve Beuerlein
8. Beth Mowins and Jay Feely
I like what CBS did in putting Tony Romo as the first color commentator because of how popular he is. A lot of us can agree that Tony Romo got more attention when he came to CBS this past spring then Phil Simms did when he joined CBS. It seems that no matter what Tony is doing in his life that everyone wants to see what he is doing. Whenever Jim Nantz and Tony Romo will be announcing games on CBS a lot of people are going to watch the games they announce because everybody wants to hear what Tony has to say about the other teams he used to play against.
It's great for Andrew Catalon that he gets to move up to the fifth spot because he is one of my favorite announcers and definitely deserved a promotion. Every game Andrew announces he makes the game more exciting and every big play that happens during a game he announces it like it's one of the best plays and games we have ever seen in our life and we'll never see a special game or play happen again. If it was up to me I would put him in the number one spot. But because he hasn't been on CBS as long as the other play by play announcers he's not at a higher spot. With Andrew in the fifth spot he will announce games every week for CBS unlike last year when their were some weeks he couldn't announce because CBS didn't air enough games for certain weeks. He will announce with James Lofton who joined CBS this past spring.
Adam Archuleta has been moved up to the sixth spot with Spero Dedes. This is good for Adam because he used to announce in the seventh spot with Tom McCarthy. Spero Dedes gets demoted from the fifth spot and since he is in the sixth spot he will not call as many games on CBS this season than he did last season.
Tom McCarthy is still in the seventh spot and will announce with Steve Tasker and Steve Beuerlein. Tasker and Beuerlein were both announcing in the sixth spot last year with Andrew Catalon and now both Tasker and Beuerlein got demoted. Since they are in the seventh spot we are not going to see much of them as we did last season.
It's also nice to see a lady announce for the NFL on CBS. Beth Mowins who has announced games for other channels in the past will join Jay Feely and announce in the eighth spot. We might only see Beth and Jay call two games throughout the season though.
Fox Commentator Pairings For 2017
1. Joe Buck, Troy Aikman and Erin Andrews
2. Kevin Burkhardt, Charles Davis and Pam Oliver
3. Kenny Albert, Ronde Barber and Kristina Pink
4. Chris Myers, Daryl Johnston and Laura Okmin
5. Dick Stockton, Mark Schlereth and Shannon Spake
6. Thom Brennaman, Chris Spielman and Peter Schrager
7. Sam Rosen, David Diehl and Jennifer Hale
Congratulations to Charles Davis as he becomes the second color commentator after being the fourth color commentator last year. I really liked Burkhardt announcing with John Lynch but since Lynch decided to be the General Manager for the San Francisco 49ers they needed someone to replace Lynch and Charles Davis is the man. But I think we'll all get used to Burkhardt announcing with Davis and we'll grow to like it.
Ronder Barber got a nice promotion as he becomes the third color commentator after being the fifth color comentator last year. He will announce with Kenny Albert this season.
Chris Myers has moved up to become the fourth play by play announcer after being in the fifth spot last season. He will announce with Daryl Johnston who got demoted from the third color commentator spot. I still miss when Daryl Johnston was announcing with Kenny Albert and Tony Siragusa in the past. Man those were the good old days.
Dick Stockton moves up to the fifth spot after being in the sixth spot last year. Dick will announce with Mark Schlereth who has just joined Fox. Mark has been a lot of the Fox Sport 1 Shows recently like "Skip And Shannon: Undisputed"and "Speak For Yourself".
Thom Brennaman on the other hand gets demoted big time as he was the fourth play by play announcer last year and is the sixth play by play announcer this year. He will announce with Chris Spielman this year. Sometimes I feel when I watch Thom announce that he needs to show more emotion when he announces. Sometimes he makes it sound like a very close and exciting game is boring even though it is really interesting.
Sam Rosen is still in the seventh spot this year as he will announce with David Diehl who is now a full time announcer with Fox.
These are the announcer pairings for both CBS and Fox and let's see this season how good they are working with each other.
