MegaTron Wants To Dive In The Black Hole
Well throughout training camp former Detroit Lion wide receiver Calvin Johnson has been traveling around the country to visit other training camps. He has been to the Dolphins training camp and the Raiders training camp. Calvin Johnson says he is very happily retired and told reporters while he was vacationing in Italy that when he was on the Lions that he couldn't see himself winning a Super Bowl with the Lions and that "for the work I was putting in, it wasn’t worth my time to keep on beating my head against the wall.”
For the nine seasons Calvin played with the Lions he only made the playoffs twice and never made it past the Wild Card Game. He did put in a lot of work as he had 7 1,000 receiving yard seasons. In each of the last six seasons that Calvin played he had over 1,000 yards receiving.
What probably made Calvin realize that he couldn't win with the Lions was because of back in 2008 when the Lions went 0-16. Deep down in Calvin's heart he knew that no one on the team had a good work ethic and had the will to win like he did and he showed it. He was ranked fifth in receiving yards back in 2008 and was tied for first place in receiving touchdowns with Arizona Cardinals Wide Receiver Larry Fitzgerald. Calvin and Larry both had 12 touchdowns that season.
In 2012 Calvin set a record for most receiving yards in a season. He had 1,964 receiving yards that season. Calvin Johnson is only 31 years old and doesn't deserve to retire. Yeah perhaps he did put his body in a lot of pain to play at the level he performed but Calvin showed all of us that he shouldn't be the only wide receiver to do all the work. If you really think about it Calvin has never had a really good capable teammate that can catch the football like he does. If he did Calvin probably wouldn't have had to work himself so hard and he wouldn't have faced so much pressure.
You honestly have to feel bad for Calvin because he wanted to leave Detroit and play with another team that wanted to win but he couldn't because the Lions would not allow to release Calvin's contract so he was forced to retire. Calvin has told reporters that it would be cool to play with Derek Carr and the Raiders. If Calvin ever does find a way to play with the Raiders that team is going to be so nice. Calvin Johnson would play with two really good wide receivers in Amari Cooper and Michael Crabtree. He would have a defense that doesn't give up points and besides that whole team is about to take the next step in going into the Super Bowl. The Raiders finally see that they build a strong team that can win and their not going to stop now. The Raiders are on a mission, they have a goal in mind, and they want to be the best team this year. Calvin notices that as he went to the Raiders training camp and he really wished he could be a part of that team.
I just don't want to see Calvin retire at such an early age because he still has a lot more years left to be a productive wide receiver. Barry Sanders a very good running back for the Detroit Lions that retired early cause he didn't think the Lions were an organization that was capable of winning. He only played in the league for 10 years. It shows that Detroit needs to do a better job at trying to create a winning atmosphere for their players because their most popular players retired so early that it shouldn't have happened. Hopefully we'll see MegaTron on the field sometime in the future.
