Jermaine Kearse Is Going To Step Up
So yesterday the Seattle Seahawks traded Wide Receiver Jermaine Kearse to the New Yor Jets in exchange for Defensive Tackle Sheldon Richardson.
The New York Jets are currently in rebuild mode and are trying to see who can do well for their team in the long run. Meanwhile the Seattle Seahawks are once again trying to win a Super Bowl this year and they know that if they want to get there that they are going to need have a very strong defense and adding Richardson was a big help as he will be their starting defensive tackle. Sheldon is probably pretty happy to get away from the Jets and start fresh on a new team that wants to win another championship. Sheldon made the Pro Bowl in 2014 and was named Defensive Rookie Of The Year in 2013.
Jermaine Kearse is probably feeling sad right now as he is now on team that is nowhere near close to making the playoffs this season but this is a wake up call for Kearse as he now needs to step up and be the good wide receiver the Seahawks wanted to see from him. Kearse has played every game in the past two seasons but was only to able to catch 1,195 receiving yards combined between the last two seasons. Kearse is fast enough to beat cornerbacks and make catches but the Seahawks I guess wanted to see more from him. Let's not forget that Kearse did send the Seahawks to Super Bowl 49 in the 2015 NFC Championship Game when he caught the game winning touchdown pass in overtime against the Green Bay Packers to get Seattle to the Super Bowl for the second straight year. So Kearse is capable to make big catches in big time moments.
But the Seahwaks wanted Kearse to be more than good. They wanted to see him be elite. What Kearse is trying to do with the Jets this season is to become the number one wide receiver with the Jets and be phenomenal. If Kearse does really well with the Jets in 2017 than he can be a free agent next Spring and sign with any team he wants, which probably will be with a good team. For Seattle the loss of Kearse does not destroy this team on offense because Russell Wilson can pass to any wide receiver that is on his team and we have seen it before.
