2017 In A Review
As the calendar year of 2017 ends we should remember all the things that happened around Chartiers Valley High School this year and remember why Chartiers Valley is one of the best schools to make memories at. This February the CV Girls Basketball team won a WPIAL championship as they defeated Oakland Catholic 52-37. Megan McConnell now had the same amount of WPIAL championships (1) as her older brothers Matty and TJ. Megan has three more years to try and get more WPIAL championships then her two older brothers. In July the CVHS Dance Troupe earned first place at a competition in Kentucky to earn a bid to compete in UDA Nationals. This summer former Chartiers Valley superintendent Dr. Brian White decided to go to Butler and be a superintendent there. That meant that CV needed a new superintendent so they hired Mr. Scott Seltzer to replace Dr. Brian White. This summer History teacher Mr. Robert Rodrigues decided, after a long time of teaching, to finally retire. A lot of people felt sad but it’s fine because he still comes back to the school here and there to visit and there has been multiple times this year when he came to teach Mr. Brown’s Shaping of The Modern World to talk more in depth about the subjects that the students had already been talking about.
Everybody knew who Mr. John Inserra was during the 16-17 school year because he was one of the friendliest substitutes in the high school. Little did people know that while the students were doing their assignments while he was subbing he would sit at his desk and study to try to become a physics teacher. All the hard work finally paid off as this summer he got a job at Chartiers Valley to teach Physics and Biology meaning Mr. Inserra would be a regular employee and the students would see him every single day. Senior Cross Country Runner Czar Tarr continue to show off all the hard work he has done to prove to the state of Pennsylvania that he is one of the best as this season he kept placing high in meets and break records. German teacher Frau Zollars donated books to students in Zimbabwe. She is one of the teachers that makes the students of CV be proud to be from where there at because the students know that their teachers are trying to make the students’ better people and how wonderful it is to make someone who doesn’t have much have something and making them feel happy.
During the Girls WPIAL soccer playoffs some South Fayette students tweeted to other CV students about how the soccer team sucked because they defeated us in the playoffs. This is when a lot of the students from CV started to come together and attack South Fayette on Twitter making sure they’ll never talk bad about us again. This shows how united CV is. Once again the Boys Basketball team had another wonderful visit down in Florida as they continue to keep on getting wins this season. In October Senior Zachary Thomas won Homecoming King and Senior Cassidy Boyle won Homecoming queen. This was a night that these two Seniors would never forget. Senior Will Phifer was named a Commended Student in the 2018 National Merit Scholarship Program. National Recording Artist Frzy visited Chartiers Valley to talk about his music and the influence rap music has on society and how rap music influenced him as a child.
There has been so many good events and things that happened at CV during the course of the 2017 calendar year that we should make 2018 better.
