The Case For Alex Smith

Back in the middle of August I wrote an article about how backup Patrick Mahomes ll is the future for the Kansas City Chiefs and how that if Alex Smith wants to keep his job in Kansas City for years to come that he would have to an exceptional 2017 NFL season and go far in the playoffs. Alex threw for 26 for touchdowns and threw only 5 interceptions in the 15 games he started. That's pretty impressive to start and play through 15 NFL games and only throw 5 interceptions.

A reporter named Graham Bensinger asked Alex Smith on September 13th 2017 if he felt like the 2017 season would be his last year in Kansas City and Alex Smith responded by saying "For sure, It absolutely does. Without a doubt." Alex probably deep down in his heart doesn't want to leave in Kansas City so what he did was play smart football throughout the season and not turn the ball over. The middle of the season was kind of a slump for them as they lost 5 games out of 6 from Week 6 through Week 13. Let me let you all know that Alex Smith was not playing bad while the Chiefs were losing. During Week 6-13 when the Chiefs were losing a good amount of games he threw 12 touchdowns and 4 interceptions. The reason why the Chiefs were not winning games at the time was because their defense was giving up a lot of points like 38 to the New York Jets and 31 to a mediocre Oakland Raiders team. Besides Kareem Hunt was not producing much and fantasy owners were getting angry with him for barely doing anything.

Now that the 2017 Regular Season has ended I can confidently say that Alex Smith doesn't deserve to lose his job in Kansas City but he probably will leave at the end of the season because almost every single human being in Kansas City wants to see Patrick Mahomes ll start for this team. I honestly feel that Alex Smith can go to any team in the NFL, well except for the Cleveland Browns, and win games for that team. If Alex Smith somehow does happen to win a Super Bowl for the Chiefs and gets released I'm going to flip the crap out.

I keep forgetting that this man was drafted number one by the San Francisco 49ers in the 2005 NFL draft and the more I watch him play the more I start to think that this man can flat out play. Let's face it before Alex Smith came to Kansas City the Chiefs did not have a quarterback. Matt Cassel just could not produce enough win while under the throne in Kansas City. Then he shows up and produces winning records in all five seasons that he has played for them. Alex is good making plays while standing in the pocket and is a good leader. Alex Smith has showed me that he deserves to be the QB for the Chiefs until he retires and I know a lot of Chiefs fans would not agree with me but Alex Smith has not really played bad football in his time with Kansas City.
