I'll Tell You What We Saw
We all have to admit that it is kind of awesome to see that Robby Blake Bortles is going to play in his first AFC Championship Game Next Sunday against New England at 3 PM ET on CBS.
Am I really surprised that the Jaguars beat the Steelers today? Not really. We all need to remember that the Jaguars defense is very spectacular. I have watched a lot of highlights of Calais Campbell when he was in Arizona and that man was just a straight up monster. I knew when he signed with Jacksonville that they were going to make way more plays on defense. This team has the capability to go to New England next week and beat them to ride to Minnesota for the Super Bowl.
But what was really the biggest difference maker in the game was the turnovers. Big Ben threw one interception and fumbled ball once in the 45-42 loss to the Jaguars today. The Jaguars got 14 points off those two Big Ben turnovers. Big Ben was still spectacular don't get me wrong because he threw five prefect thrown touchdowns.
Blake Bortles and the whole Jaguars team did not turn the ball over at all today and that was the key to success. Remember in the 2007 NFL season when the Jaguars beat the Steelers in the Regular season in Week 15 and then beat them in the Wild Card round? Well if you do you would also remember that both of those games were at Heinz Field. That same situation happened 10 years later as this season the Jaguars beat the Steelers in Week 5 in the regular season and then they beat the Steelers again today in the Divisional Round. How ever the Jaguars defeated the Steelers in the regular season is how they beat them in the playoffs in 2007 and 2017 and they just outplayed the Steelers in both games. It's just kind of funny if you think about that.
Their is a saying that people say and it goes something like "Defense wins Championships". Well you might all be thinking that well the Jaguars defense did give up 42 points today but I am telling you that a lot of the plays that the Steelers had on offense you had to be edge on the seat wondering will Big Ben avoid being sacked cause the Jaguars could've had a boatload of sacks on defense today. What is very special about the Jaguars defense is that every single week someone on that team is making plays and it's seriously a group effort. Unlike the Houston Texans cause the only player in that team that can make plays is JJ Watt and we all saw how the Texans defense played once he was injured and had to miss the remainder of the season. Sure Jadeveon Clowney is alright but I would like to see him make more plays.
The Steelers made more mistakes turning the ball over and game planning unlike the Jaguars today. When it was 42-35 Jaguars their was no reason for the Steelers to attempt an onside kick whatsoever. Whenever the Steelers tried to get a first down on 4th & 1 late in the first quarter they should've had Big Ben QB sneak it for the first down instead of tossing the ball to Le'Veon Bell when he was already positioned five yards away from the first down mark. JuJu Smith-Schuster could've caught the ball on 4th down in the second half but he didn't.
Leonard Fournette was a monster once again as he had three rushing touchdowns. You could argue that this man should be the highest paid running back in the league. Yes even against Gurley lll and Bell. The Jaguars were ready to play the Steelers and they did what they needed to do win and with the defense they have they can make it to the Super Bowl and Blake Bortles each week feels more comfortable since his defense never takes a day off.
