Whose Man?

So the former middle school principal was Dr. John Ackermann and a lot of the students that are currently in high school would remember him. Sometimes when the students at the middle school would walk around in the hallways they would see someone else that looked really similar Dr. Ackermann. It turns out the man that looked like Dr. Ackermann was Mr. Jeff Ackermann the TV & Media & Visual Communications teacher at the high school. Mr. Ackermann is a pretty chill guy who has run a pretty successful CV high school television program that airs online every day.

One day last year I was reading an article of all the high school basketball teams that won a WPIAL championship. One of the teams that won last year was obviously the girls’ basketball team at our school and another was the boys’ basketball team that won it two years in a row in Pine Richland. I looked at the team winning picture after they won their game and saw someone familiar and it was Jeff Ackermann. I had no idea whatsoever that Mr. Ackermann was THEIR coach. I was shocked to see that he was coaching some of the best WPIAL athletes right now and perhaps all time in Phil Jurkovec, Kenny White, Andrew Petcash. and Andrew Kristofic. I started reading some more about his basketball coaching career to see if he coached anywhere else and he definitely did. He won three straight WPIAL championships from 2004-2006 as the Boys Moon Area Basketball coach. He won a state title as their coach in 2004.

Little did I know that the man that taught TV & Media at our school and the teacher that I would see get his lunch every single day is known as one of the best basketball coaches in the WPIAL and I feel that a lot of us students need to know more about the success he has had because almost all of us don’t know the difference has made on the court as well as in the classroom. He has won 3 WPIAL Championships with Moon and 2 with Pine Richland. If he can get one more ring he would tie CV Boys Basketball coach Tim McConnell with 6 WPIAL championships. But you might wonder why I am reminiscing on when I found out all this information about him. Well just on Tuesday Ackermann set history by winning his 300th game as coach and is an achievement he will remember as he is young and will coach a lot more basketball for years to come.
