Mars Area Athlete: Robby Carmody

Senior Shooting Guard Robby Carmody has had himself one senior year as he helped his team the Mars Area Fighting Planets win the Boys WPIAL 5A basketball championship against Franklin Regional on March 2nd 2018 at the Petersen Events Center. If you live in a school district that has a WPIAL basketball program it's hard not to know who Carmody is because he is the best WPIAL basketball player in the whole WPIAL and in the whole state of Pennsylvania.

Out of all the basketball players, both boys and girls in the WPIAL he has gotten the most attention by all of the media because of his size, his basketball talents but the way that he has matured this season to help his team get to the Giant Center in Hershey Center and have another opportunity to win a state championship.

The Planets lost in the Boys Basketball PIAA Class AAA championship in 2016 when they lost to Neuman-Goretti 99-66 and Robby Carmody was only a sophomore at the time so there was plenty more time in his high school basketball career to improve.

Robby Carmody scored 34 points in the PIAA Class AAAAA Boys Basketball Championship but lost to Abington Heights 67-55. The fact that out of all 30 points the Planets scored in the second half that Robby scored 27 that shows how much of a dynamic force that beast is.

Every single time Robby would get on the court at another school all the students from Mars'opponents Student Section would try to distract him but he did a good job by not getting distracted.

Mars was able to get one of their games on ESPN this school year and that showed how much talent Robby has to want ESPN, one of the best TV companies in the United States, to show how good his basketball skills are and how much of a leader he is to lead his team to wins all by himself.

This year I have been to 3 Mars Area Boys basketball games this season and I have watched 2 Mars basketball games on television and all I can tell you that all 5 games that I have watched this year I can tell you that he is calm while he plays, is a good shooter and has the ability to make his teammates better. When I watch Robby play he kind reminds me of LeBron James. Robby and LeBron have both carried their teams themselves. Yeah I know that their teams have other players that can play score points and make an impact but those two know that in order to win the games they play that they both have to play at the highest level on a nightly basis and they both do.

If you really want to know how good of a basketball player this man just look at all the colleges that gave him offers like Notre Dame which happens to be the college he is going to. Other colleges that gave him offers were Purdue, Auburn, Butler, Cincinnati, Michigan, Ohio State, Xavier and Syracuse. All those schools have well known basketball programs and there are many very famous NBA athletes that went to those schools and made a name for themselves there.

When Robby won Gatordade's Boys High School Basketball Player of They Year award the company of Gatorade's twitter started following him that is how good he is to get the most famous sports drink company in the U.S.A. maybe even in the whole world to follow him.

The fact that Robby had pneumonia for a little while and still played basketball while recovering from it shows how much he loves basketball and will help his team win no matter what. He did throw up in the locker room during halftime against Trinity in a playoff game this year and was forced to sit during the second half. The rest of his teammates helped secure the W and move on.

Robby Carmody has made a name for himself while he was in high school and the way the he plays he'll find a way to accomplish a lot at Notre Dame and maybe hopefully we'll someday see him in the NBA.
