The Career Of Woodland Hills Athlete: Amante Britt
Amante Britt has had a productive four years at Woodland Hills High School as he turned Woodland Hills from a terrible basketball school to a very good basketball school. Britt is still only 17 years old as he doesn't turn 18 years old until June 26th. During the 2013-14 WPIAL basketball season the Woodland Hills boys basketball team did not win a single game in their section or even better yet did not even win a single game throughout that whole season.
Then in the 2014-15 WPIAL basketball season the Wolverines got a new player on their team in Amante Britt who was only a freshman at the time. With Britt now on the team the Wolverines won a total of 5 games throughout the whole season but only won one section game as they finished last in their section 4A Section 2 for the third straight season.
In the 2015-16 season Amante Britt and the Wolverines had a better year as they had a section record of 7-7 and finished the season with a 12-10 record. Their section record was not good enough to make playoffs. Amante and the Wolverines however knew that their team now has the capability to be better for years to come and the Wolverines players kept practicing during the offseason to become even better.
The 2016-17 season was very very good for the Wolverines as even though they had a 7-7 record in their section like they did last year they were able to make in the playoffs in 6A, the classification they are in now, as this was the first year that PIAA added a 5A and 6A classification to boys basketball. The Wolverines defeated Mount Lebanon and Fox Chapel in the 6A playoffs before they lost to Ethan Morton and the Butler Golden Tornados 54-36. The fact that the Wolverines made it to the playoffs and were one game away of reaching the 6A Boys WPIAL championship made that team feel really good about themselves as they would want to come back next season and be even better.
And the Wolverines were better this season as Amante Britt was the captain and star of the Wolverines has he became a player that would interest a lot of D1 colleges. The Wolverines finished first in their section which is 6A Section 3 with a 12-2 record. They had to beat some good teams to become section champions as they defeated Penn Hills once, Fox Chapel once and Norwin. The Wolverines started well in the playoffs once again as they had a bye in the first round and defeated Canon-McMillian in the second round. The Wolverines were once again one game away from going to the 6A WPIAL championship game for the second straight year as they had to face the Pine-Richland Rams at North Hills High School. Amante Britt played like an absolute monster as he scored 31 points in that game but the Wolverines lost 65-61 as the Rams showed that they were a better team because they have had the most experience in the playoffs. Britt and the Wolverines would then lose to State College in the first round of the 6A PIAA Boys basketball playoffs. Britt was a part of the "Fab 5" this year which is the 5 best basketball players listed in the whole WPIAL and city league schools listed by the Pittsburgh Post Gazette.
Britt averaged 20.4 points this season and led the Wolverines in assists and also set the school record for most points scored with 1,425 points. When I watch Britt play is see a guy who just plays basketball at a smooth level if that even makes sense. Britt barely turns the ball over and is tremendous at left handed layups. Almost everytime that man makes a 3-pt shot it's nothing but net as the ball will barely hit the rim or hit the glass to go in. His accuracy is just very good and he just dribbles the basketball nice and relaxed up and down the court. Britt doesn't care how short he is because he knows that he'll do whatever he wants no matter the height.
Britt as of right now has not made a college decision yet as he has offers from LeMoyne college, Pitt-Johnstown, Califonia University Of Pennsylvania, Clairion and Millersville. Amante Britt is a really good player that gets good grades and his grades might be actually what helps him in succeeding in basketball.
