Montour Athlete: Kavon Morman

Montour Athlete Kavon Morman supporting his team during a football All-Star Game

For four years Montour athlete Kavon Morman played both football and basketball for the Spartans. Back on February 3rd 2018 Kavon Morman made his college decision as he announced on Twitter that he will continue his academic and football career at California University of Pennsylvania (Cal U). Back on July 27th 2017 whenever WPXI held their Skylights Media Day Event at Heinz Field one of the WPXI reporters interviewed Kavon Morman and you need to have watched the interview to see how nice, mature and outgoing this man is.

Kavon told the WPXI reporter how when he stands at Heinz Field he gets excited about football and how much he wanted to play there in a WPIAL football championship this upcoming year. Kavon's standards were really high going into this season and really wanted to accomplish a lot and then in November little did he know he would actually play at Heinz Field for a chance to win a WPIAL Class 4A football championship. On November 18th 2017 in the 4A WPIAL championship game Montour played Thomas Jefferson and TJ defeated Montour 27-0. It was really raining hard that night at Heinz Field.

This past football season Kavon passed for 1,689 yards, threw for 15 touchdowns and rushed for 672 yards under center for the Spartans. This was the year that Montour became great and it was too bad that they could not win the WPIAL championship trophy at Heinz Field. Montour is going to lose a lot of seniors next year and the Spartans are going to have look for a new quarterback during the summer.

During Kavon's freshman and sophomore seasons at Montour the boys' basketball team made it to the playoffs but did not go very far as he was not a regular starter. But during his junior and senior year of playing basketball he was a regular starter and even though Kavon did not score a lot of points his main strength was passing the basketball and he has helped some of his teammates he has played with become better like former Spartan K.J. Rhodes and Montour junior Jaden Nelson. Kavon always fed them the ball because he was so good at passing the basketball.

I think Kavon was so good at passing a basketball and knowing if his teammates were open on the court or not because he plays quarterback and was so used to passing a football and knowing which of his receivers were open that he transferred his football skills onto the basketball court. Montour did not make it to the playoffs in basketball during Kavon's junior and senior season.

I don't actually know if Kavon will play quarterback or cornerback at Cal U. But if I had to guess I think he'll play cornerback. Kavon has had some good times in Montour and the WPIAL championship loss will only make Kavon a much stronger person in the future.

What I like about Kavon is how fast he is. The dude honestly ran almost the same amount of yards as his senior teammate and starting running back for the Spartans Brayden Jones who rushed for 675 yards this past season while Kavon rushed for 672 yards this past season. The addition of Brandon Lipford was great for Montour as Kavon had a wide receiver who knew what it was like getting to Heinz Field and winning a WPIAL championship. Lipford won a WPIAL football championship with West Allegheny in his junior year in 2016.

Kavon Morman helped turned Montour in the right direction as their football and basketball teams will continue improving as the future goes on.
