Capitals vs. Golden Knights Series Will Be Talked About A Lot In The Future

Capitals players Alexander Ovechkin, Braden Holtby, Nick Backstrom and TJ Oshie will be looking to get their first Stanley Cup championship while Golden Knights players James Neal, William Karlsson and Jonathan Marchessault will be looking to get their first Stanley Cup championship as well.

Monday will be a day that the city of Washington has been waiting for since the Capitals drafted Ovechkin in July of 2004. Something spectacular will happen in this series in either Ovechkin will win his first Stanley Cup, that many people think he deserves one or the Vegas Golden Knights will be the first ever NHL team to win a Stanley Cup in their inaugural season.

Before the regular season began I really did think the Golden Knights would be in the playoffs as a low seed but I did not think they would win in their division and get to where they are at now in the Stanley Cup Finals. All of the Golden Knights players all year round have proven to the other NHL teams that they are all valuable and all of the players on the Golden Knights want to prove their old teams that they made a terrible mistake in letting them go. I guess that's why the Golden Knights called themselves "The Golden Misfits". Even Golden Knights head coach Gerard Gallant wanted to show the former team he coached in the Florida Panthers that they made a mistake firing him and they sure did. God knows if we'll see the Florida Panthers make the Stanley Cup Finals in the next 20 years.

The television station NBC started showing the Stanley Cup Final games in 2006 and every year the television ratings of the finals are different based on the matchup. Last year an average of 4.7 million viewers watched each game of the Stanley Cup Finals last year between the Pittsburgh Penguins and the Nashville Predators. In 2007 only an average of 1.6 million viewers watched each game in the Stanley Cup Finals series between the Anaheim Ducks and the Ottawa Senators. Ever since NBC started showing the Stanley Cup Finals in 2006 the most watched Stanley Cup Finals was between the Blackhawks and Bruins in 2013 where an average of 5.8 million viewers watched each game of the series. The Blackhawks and Bruins lasted 6 games. I believe this year that NBC will break that record as I think the Capitals and Golden Knights series will be the most watched Stanley Cup Finals ever since NBC started broadcasting the Stanley Cup Finals in 2006.

I think the series will be the most watched Stanley Cup series ever because a lot of people would want to see history made right in front of their face while they are watching TV to see a team become so dominant and perhaps win the cup in their inaugural season in the Golden Knights. This series is going to be watched a lot because of Ovechkin. The NHL and the media cannot stop talking about Ovechkin because of how good and how skilled he is at the game of hockey but has never made a deep postseason run. But now this year Ovechkin has made a deep run in the postseason and the TV viewers will see if his team can win the cup. A Stanley Cup Final game has never been played in the T-Mobile Arena so you can guess that games 1 and 2 at the arena will be sold out. Capital One Arena in Washington has not hosted a Stanley Cup Final game since 1998 when the Capitals faced the Redwings in the Finals and the arena was known as MCI center and not Capital One Arena. The Capitals are even looking for their first Stanley Cup win ever in franchise history.

Golden Knights goalie Marc-Andre Fleury is looking to hoist the Stanley Cup for the third straight year as he won the Stanley Cup with the Pittsburgh Penguins the two previous seasons. Fleury will also be looking to win his fourth Stanley Cup overall this year. Like let's be real now. If Fleury is able to win a championship with the Knights then we realistically have to think if the Pittsburgh Penguins really did made a mistake in keeping Murray rather than Fleury. A lot of athletes are in their prime when they are in their 20s and perhaps early 30s. But Fleury is 33 years old and started to become in his prime since a couple of years ago and will continue playing at this level for years to come.

This series is going to be so fun to watch and I am just so excited to watch it.
