J.R. Smith's Mistake
Almost everybody on social media is still talking about J.R. Smith's mistake that he made late in the fourth quarter on Thursday in Game 1 of the NBA Finals.
If you are wondering what J.R. did that has gotten sports fanatics heated I will tell you what happened. There was like 4.8 seconds left in the fourth quarter and the game was tied at 107. George Hill was at the free throw line getting ready to shoot his second free throw attempt as he already made the first one. So Hill attempts his second free throw attempt and misses it. But luckily J.R. Smith gets the rebound but then all of a sudden he starts running backwards. When I saw this live on my television I was actually confused what he was trying to do. J.R. runs backwards and LeBron is yelling at him to pass it forward to one of their teammates and J.R. passed it to other Cavs player Larry Nance Jr. and Larry tried shooting a 3 point shot but he missed it as time expired. J.R. wasted like 3 seconds running backward it was unbelievable. So at the end of regulation the game was tied at 107 and the Warriors just destroyed the Cavs in overtime as they would beat them by double digits.
Everyone was upset to see that instead of J.R. trying to take a two point shot right in front of the basket he ran backward for no reason. During the post-game interview Cavaliers coach Tyron Lue told the media how J.R. thought they had a lead before George Hill attempted the second free throw shot and that once he got the rebound he thought he would run out the clock out but J.R. was completely unaware that the game was tied. This makes me wonder if J.R. thought Hill was going to miss it on purpose even though Hill did not mean to miss it whatsoever.
This play that J.R. is actually considered to be one of the dumbest mistakes ever made in a professional sports championship game ever in the United States. A lot of the media thinks that what J.R. did was so bad that the Cavaliers, as a team, cannot recover from this situation and the Warriors won the series because of it.
It must have actually been hard for J.R. to sleep the past two days but he needs to know that there is a game tomorrow that he needs to be prepared for. It was not just J.R. that probably could not get any sleep at all the past two days but George Hill probably did not get any sleep either. That free throw shot was probably the most important shot that Hill have ever attempted in his life and he blew it by missing it but he knows all he needs to do is just focus on Game 2. I mean let's be real now the Cavs will be completely happy to win at least one of the first two games in Golden State and then see what happens in the next two games in Cleveland. Which means they have to won Game 2 tomorrow since they did not win Game 1 on Thursday. A lot of people had to be surprised as well that the Cavs were in the game for the first 48 minutes in the game until overtime started. It would be actually way to funny if the Cavs would eventually win this series because no one ever would actually talk about J.R.'s mistake again.
You have to give credit to the Warriors in overtime however as the whole team showed up as Klay Thompson and Draymond Green hit some big three point shots late in overtime. Green and Cavs player Tristan Thompson got into a little scuffle at the end of overtime but it was not a big deal as the Cavs players were probably just upset what happened at the end of regulation that they took it out on the Warriors players late in overtime.
We will see if the Cavs can come back after they took that horrible Game 1 loss.
