2018 CVSHL Finals Preview
Last year there was no CVSHL Finals because the Birdland Whalers and the Collier Cargo Shorts were not able to schedule a game with each other because the days the Shorts could play the Whalers could not play and the days the Whalers could play the Cargo Shorts could not play.
This year the Carnegie Cyclones and the Collier Cargo Shorts are supposed to face each other in the 2018 CVSHL Finals. Hopefully the Cyclones and the Cargo Shorts will be able to play a championship series against each other as it will be a best of 3 series.
But there is a little conflict that gets some people thinking if their will really be a series or not. So Cargo Shorts Captain Cam Stevenson is supposed to be moving to Ohio on either the 15th or 16th of this month. With Cam moving it gets people to wonder if the Cargo Shorts will be back playing in the CVSHL next year because Cam is the guy on the team that schedules all the games, gets all the guys together and well basically is the owner of the team. If the Cargo Shorts want to continue playing next year someone on the team has to step up and take control of the team with Cam leaving. Assistant captains Chris Vaughn and Pat McGough can take over or someone else on the team can.
But anyway with Cam leaving next weekend the Cargo Shorts and Cyclones will need to finish this championship series because as of right now the series has not started. I am not sure once Cam leaves if the rest of the Cargo Shorts can get together and play without him or I am not sure if Cam would let the rest of his teammates without him to be honest.
So if Cam leaves the 15th of this month which is this Friday the Shorts and Cyclones would have to play two games in the next four days after today which would be Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday. If Cam leaves on the 16th which is Saturday then they would have at least Friday to play a game as well. But if there would be happened to be three games played in this series and Cam has to leave on the 15th that means the Shorts and the Cyclones would have to play each other three times in the next four days.
Now there seems to be a problem with the Cyclones as well. Just today a lot of seniors that play for the Cyclones went on a vacation or what they would like to call it a "Senior Trip". Those seniors on the Cyclones that would be leaving on the Cyclones are Zack Williams, PJ Massella and Donovan Kinnee. James Lindow, Jake Lindow and Tyler Coleman have not been to any Cyclones games since the CVSHL started back up again in May so it gets people wondering if all three of them quit. Once they all come back from their senior trip Cam Stevenson would already be gone and be living in Ohio. The only people that could play this week for the Cyclones are Michael Sedlak, Matthew Sedlak, Josh Griffith and their captain of course Nate Budai.
With only four Cyclones being able to play next week this gets people wondering if they will have enough to play. Nate Budai could get some players that have played for other teams to play this week or sign some people just to play this week with all the seniors on their trip. But that gets me wondering if Cam would let Nate do that because you know Bud would only pickup very good players and not bad players.
With the Cargo Shorts having the number one seed they really do have the choice of where they want to play in Game 1 of the Finals. The last time the Cargo Shorts played the Cyclones they played on Memorial Day at Meadowlark Park and the Shorts 5-4 as Chris Vaughn scored the game-winning overtime goal as he scored three goals in that game as well. Shorts goalie Danny Phillips was a rock in that game against the Cyclones as some people might say that was the best game he has ever played in net. And, yes this was the game where Caleb Stevenson and Austin Abel fought each other.
If this series between the Shorts and Cyclones actually does happen it would be a lot of fun as it is known as the Shorts and the Cyclones are not known for liking each other. When the Shorts played the old CVSHL team the Collier Coyotes last year at Meadowlark Park there was a lot of trash talk and it looked like three or four fights were about to break out in that game and a lot of current Cyclones players played for that Coyotes team last year.
