Donovan Johnson Transferring To Moon
Donovan Johnson is a high school basketball player in Western Pennsylvania and plays the position of starting forward. Johnson has been known for helping the Our Lady of Sacred Heart (OLSH) Boys Basketball team achieve success. Johnson finished his sophomore season at OLSH and is probably practicing basketball a lot this summer. Johnson helped take OLSH's Boys Basketball team to the WPIAL 2A championship this past season. Unfortunately, the team lost to Sewickley Academy 63-59.
Johnson has a brother named Cameron Johnson and Cameron also played basketball for OLSH. Cameron currently plays college basketball for the University of North Carolina Tar heels. Some high school basketball coaches might evaluate Donovan's style of basketball closely to see if he is just as good as his brother Cameron.
Matt Farago, announcer of the Harlem Globetrotters, tweeted on Twitter yesterday that he was told that Johnson might transfer to Moon before the start of the 2018-19 school year.
If the Moon Area Tigers are able to acquire Johnson that would be an upgrade at the small forward position for the Tigers. There are a lot of basketball players on Moon, who will play next year, that are capable of playing the small forward position. If Johnson does attend Moon Area High School that means their basketball team is going to actually be very good for at least the next two years. Moon is already a good basketball team with the Ryan twins, Jioni Smith, Brady Sunday and Taru Jones. The fact that they are all returning next year is pretty good and just adding Donovan Johnson to that roster is just sensational.
Johnson would walk into a 5A Boys Basketball Section that is not really threatening to Moon. The fact that Mars is not in Moon's section anymore and the fact that Montour, Chartiers Valley, South Fayette, West Allegheny and West Mifflin are not talked about or considered one of the best teams in 5A is a good sign for Moon since those teams are in Moon's section.
When Jarrod Simmons returned to Moon Area for his senior year and played basketball there, I said that Simmons basically fell out of the sky for the Moon Boys Basketball program, for the Moon Area Athletic Department and for Moon head coach Adam Kaufman because of how talented Simmons is.
I am actually amazed that for the second time in three years that once again another player is falling out of the sky and landing right into the hands of Adam Kaufman. OLSH and Moon are not far from each other in distance so if you really think about it, it makes sense that Johnson would go to Moon because he probably lives somewhere in Moon and if he attends Moon he would not have to pay money to pay for tuition at Moon like he did at OLSH.
Last month, I wrote an article about WPIAL 5A Boys Basketball and I said that my top three teams to win the WPIAL championship for this upcoming basketball season were Highlands, Woodland Hills and Mars. But with Johnson most likely going to Moon, I am going to have to include Moon in the conversation for having a chance of winning a WPIAL title this year. This addition for Moon is actually so big that Austin and Connor Ryan are probably shooting basketballs at their local park in Moon and thinking to themselves that they have a very good chance of getting back to the Petersen Events Center in February or March and winning their second WPIAL basketball championship in their high school careers.
Donovan is now another athlete who is going to be on the list of notable athletes transferring schools in the last year. Moon's Student Section is going to be hyped as they know that their team has another chance of a WPIAL championship and they know that Moon is a step closer of becoming once again a basketball dynasty.
