Player Mobility In The WPIAL Is Fun To Watch
On July 18th, the PIAA made a new rule that any athlete who is going to enter their sophomore, junior or senior year in Pennsylvania who transfers schools faces ineligibility for postseason play at their new schools. This affects WPIAL athletes a whole lot.
This rule will not be in effect until tomorrow so if you are a sophomore, junior or senior athlete in the WPIAL that wanted to transfer schools after today, you are too late to transfer and will be stuck at the current school you are at unless you want to move schools and play a sport that you can only play in the regular season but not the postseason. I do not see many WPIAL athletes wanting to change schools knowing they cannot play in the postseason. There is a chance though that if you are a WPIAL athlete that you could still move schools and be eligible for postseason play if you have a parent that needs to move because of job employment.
The new PIAA transfer rule is going to decrease the amount of player mobility that happens in the WPIAL. There have been a whole bunch of athletes that have transferred schools in the past three years that it has actually helped people in the media who are covering the WPIAL find new stories to write about.
If this new PIAA started about three years ago the whole entire history of WPIAL champions would change so much it would have been unreal how much change there would be. So for all the WPIAL athletes that transferred before the deadline tomorrow you should be happy and blessed.
There has been so many athletes that have transferred to different schools lately that it makes the WPIAL so much fun to watch. Player mobility in professional sports like the NBA, NFL, MLB and NHL is what makes all those sports so much fun to watch and it only helps people in the sports media find more topics to write about. I seriously think all journalists and writers enjoyed writing topics like LeBron going to play basketball for the Los Angeles Lakers or like when Peyton Manning went to play for the Denver Broncos or even when Robinson Canó went to play for the Seattle Mariners.
I want to take a look at a list of some WPIAL athletes that have transferred schools in the past three or some years and I bet you will recognize some of these names.
