Jamie Diven Has Found A Home In South Fayette
South Fayette's quarterback Jamie Diven has to be having a fun time playing football at South Fayette right now. In the South Fayette Lions first two games, this football season, they have a record of 1-1. The Lions lost their first game of the season against Upper St. Clair 34-33. The game between those two teams was so good; it was unreal. The Lions won their first game just this past Friday against the Beaver Bobcats 35-7. With that win for the Lions, they are now 1-0 in their section.
When the Lions played Upper St. Clair, Diven completed 23 passes out of 34 attempts and threw for 352 yards in that game. That was pretty impressive. On top of that, Diven threw 4 touchdowns and threw 2 interceptions in the game. Just this past Friday when the Lions played Beaver, Diven completed 10 passes out of 13 attempts and threw for 180 yards. Diven also threw for 5 touchdowns in the game against Beaver.
If you do the math and calculate Diven's stats you can see that he has completed 33 passes out of 47 attempts. That means that Diven has completed 70 percent of his passes so far in the first two games of the season. In high school football, it is good to complete 70 percent of your passses as a quarterback. Diven has threw for 532 yards, 9 touchdowns in his first two game of the season. He is on pace for throwing at least 1,000 yards this season. Diven has good weapons he can throw the ball to like senior wide receivers Peyton Tinney, Mike Trimbur, Rayquin Glover and Ryan Kokoski. Sophomore Charley Rossi is also a big threat wide receiver that Diven can throw the ball to.
What you have to like about the way Diven plays football is that the fact that he can run with the football, throws the ball accurately and has a lot of trust in his wide receivers to catch the football. Diven is a good passer in the pocket and that's what has gotten attention from a lot of people when they watch him play.
If you did not know, in Jamie's first three years of high school he played football at West Allegheny. While Jamie was there, West A's Head Coach Bob Palko would not have him play a lot and would switch quarterbacks a lot. Diven only threw for 194 yards last season and threw 0 touchdowns in his junior year at West Allegheny. West A used 4 different quarterbacks last season and they once again continue to keep using more than one quarterback during a game this season. Now it's not that bad West A is using that strategy because they are winning games. It's just that I am not certain how much faith they had in Diven and I am not certain that West A saw what strengths he actually has as a quarterback.
Diven is enjoying his new home in South Fayette because he is winning games, completing passes, throwing touchdowns, getting opportunities and most importantly knows that the coaching staff BELIEVES in him. The Lions will play their next football game against the New Castle Hurricanes at New Castle on Friday September 7th.
