West Allegheny Starts 1-0 To Begin 2018

Quarterback Kam Kruze leads West Allegheny to a 41-7 win over Chartiers Valley on August 31st 2018.

The West Allegheny Indians are off to a good start in the 2018 WPIAL football season. The Indians defeated the Chartiers Valley Colts 41-7 on Friday August 31st 2018. If you were able to watch the game, you could see that the game was pretty close after the first quarter when West A only lead 3-0.

But, in the second quarter West A took over the game as they scored four touchdowns in the quarter. Early in the second quarter West A's quarterback Kam Kruze rushed for a 5 yard touchdown to give the Indians a 10-0 lead. Later in the quarter senior running back Dante Flati rushed for a 19 yard touchdown to give the Indians a 17-0 lead. West A continued to roll in the second quarter when freshman quarterback Gavin Miller entered in the game and threw a 61 yard touchdown to a very wide open Kyle Guilfoil to give the Indians a 24-0 lead. Dante Flati rushed for his second touchdown late in the second quarter to give the Indians a 31-0 lead. This game turned ugly real quick as you can see. Chartiers Valley quarterback Griffin Beattie rushed for a 22 yard touchdown with 0:07 left in the second quarter to decrease West A's lead to 24. West A had a 31-7 lead over Chartiers Valley at halftime.

West A outplayed Char Valley in the third and fourth quarter as well as the Indians scored 10 points in the second half and they did not let the Colts score a point in the second half. West A's kicker John McArdle had a pretty good game on Friday against CV as he kicked two field goals and converted 5 extra points in the game. Dante Flati rushed for 103 yards in the game and scored both of his two touchdowns in the second quarter. West A's big named football star Mateo Vandamia had 3 receptions and 2 sacks on Friday against CV.

West A will play another section game next week against Bethel Park. That game will be West A's home-opener. Chartiers Valley will play a non-section game against Armstrong next week.

The Indians played well in the first game of Bob Palko's final season at West A as this game showed the rest of the WPIAL that West A is ready to play and win for a ring again. It's good that the Indians have two quarterbacks, Kam Kruze and Gavin Miller, who are ready to get on the field and help the team win in any situation. Miller completed 10 passes out of 20 attempts, threw 175 yards and threw 1 touchdown on Friday against CV. If Miller can continue to play well, he could be West A's star quarterback for the next three years after the 2018 PIAA football season ends.
