Bishop Canevin's Girls Volleyball Is Currently Celebrating at "Comeback City"
On Halloween Night, Bishop Canevin's Girl Volleyball team was losing 2 sets to 0 sets against Fort Cherry at Peters Township High School. This game was important for both teams because the winner of this game is going to the WPIAL 1A Volleyball championship game.
Fort Cherry won the first set 25-19. The funny thing about this was that Bishop Canevin Crusaders did not lose a single set, against a 1A team, in the regular season and postseason coming into this game. What was also funny was that after Bishop Canevin lost the first set, they lost the second set as well by a score of 25-20. If you do not follow WPIAL volleyball, you all have to know that going into this game Bishop Canevin was considered one of the best volleyball teams in the WPIAL. Like, they are that good and they do not have a star player on their team that is over 6 foot.
If you were at the game and saw that Bishop Canevin was down 2-0, your heart had to be racing because you know that there was a chance that you could have seen the biggest WPIAL volleyball upset match, this season. Going into this game, Fort Cherry's section record was 9-3 as two of their losses were against Bishop Canevin.
But, after Bishop Canevin lost the first two sets, they decided to make some noise. Bishop Canevin won the third set 25-22 and I am pretty sure that after that set, Fort Cherry started to feel nervous and started realizing that the Bishop Canevin is back. The Crusaders won the fourth set 25-17 and going into the fifth set, the crowd at the game had to know that Crusaders were probably going to win the fifth set because all the momentum was on their side going into that final set.
The Crusaders won the fifth set 15-7 as during the final play of the game, Fort Cherry's defensive specialist, Haley Felton, hit the ball out of the bounds. Bishop Canevin got the come from behind win and will advance to the WPIAL 1A Girls Volleyball championship game on Saturday November 3rd against Carmichaels at Fox Chapel High School. The game will start at 12PM ET.
What we learned about Bishop Canevin from this game is that we should never under estimate what this volleyball team could do. This is the type of the game that can help them face any other types of adversity that they might have to face in the WPIAL championship game.
