If you live in the South Fayette or Chartiers Valley community, you know how heated the rivalry is between South Fayette and Chartiers Valley when it comes to WPIAL sports. Tonight, The Lions Boys basketball team and The Colts Boys basketball team faced off against each other at Chartiers Valley High School.

The game was very entertaining to watch as the Colts defeated the Lions by a score of 61-54. Chartiers Valley Shooting Guard, Joe Pipilo scored 8 points in the first half and ended up with 29 points at the end of the night. Joe was cooking as he scored 21 points in the second half and scored 2 big time 3 point shots in the third quarter. The Colts had three spectacular blocks. One of them came late in the second quarter as Anthony Mackey jumped as high as he could to block one of the Lions players. Pipilo had a nice block against Lion basketball player, Charley Rossi in the beginning of the second half. What is interesting about this play is that Rossi is cousins with Joe Pipilo's friend, Hunter Curran. I bet Curran and Pipilo will talk a lot about that block tomorrow during either their Rhetoric or Math class. Also, in the beginning of the second half, Colts player Socrates Boulis blocked Lions player Connor Mislan. That block made by Boulis slowly turned the momentum in the direction of Chartiers Valley.

The Lions were looking good as at the end of the first half they were beating the Colts 27-24. South Fayette player, Joe Alcorn, was the only player in the game to score a 3-pointer in the first half. In the third quarter, Joe Pipilo scored the first 3-pointer for the Colts and after that he decided to just go berserk. Kade St. Ledger, a sophomore basketball player for South Fayette, did well in the first three quarters as he scored 18 points; but, he did not score a point in the fourth quarter. The fourth quarter was rough for St. Ledger as he was called with a travel that slowly moved South Fayette downhill. For a quick minute, South Fayette started to try to make a comeback as Joe Alcorn hit a 3-point shot with 0:40 seconds remaining in the fourth quarter to give the Colts only a 59-54 lead; but, the Colts played smart and conservative basketball for the rest of the game that they won the game.

So, Sean Banas scored on a 2-point shot in the paint late in the fourth quarter and when Banas attempted the shot, South Fayette player Connor Mislan tried to block the shot. After Mislan tried to block the shot, he landed awkwardly on either his leg or ankle. He was down for a while and when he got up, he wobbled to the bench. That was not a good sign for South Fayette as he is a big part of the team and is the son of their head coach, Dave Mislan.

Chartiers Valley player Tyler Shaw and South Fayette player Drew Franklin were battling against each other in tonight's game and it was fun to watch because of the fact that they are friends.

So, earlier today in Joe Pipilo's physical education class, he was playing Pickleball with a classmate named Shorya Kohli and those two guys were playing against two freshman in Ethan Estatico and Abraham Ibrahim. Estatico is pretty good at Pickleball; I am not going to lie. Anyway, Pipilo and Kohli lost to Estatico and Ibrahim in a game of Pickleball and that's when Pipilo realized he needed to stop playing so he can rest his body and get mentally prepared for the game against South Fayette. Thank God he did because if he would've kept trying to play Pickleball, he might have not played as dominant as he did.

The Colts will try to keep their winning streak alive against Thomas Jefferson on Friday while South Fayette will play against Donovan Johnson and The Moon Area Tigers on Thursday.
