The Mars Area Girls Basketball team defeated The Plum Girls Basketball team by a score of 55-42 on Friday December 21st 2018. The game was played at Plum High School and the win for Mars improved their section record to 3-0 and their overall record to 6-0.
In the game, Plum only scored one point in the whole first quarter. Mars scored 12 in the first quarter. We know anything can happen in basketball games; but, Mars must seemed to have known that they were going to win the game after the first quarter. Now, Mars did only score 4 points in the fourth quarter; but, after leading by 51-29 at the end of third quarter, Mars had to know that Plum could not score 22 points in the fourth quarter since the most they scored in the quarter in that game was 16 points which was in the second quarter.
Mars player, Senior Tai Johnson, scored 22 points in the game and Sophomore Ellie Coffield scored 12 points in the game. Plum player, Sophomore Kennedie Montue, scored 19 points and led her team in points in the game. With this loss for Plum, their overall record is now 2-5 while their section record is now 2-0. Plum will play their next game against Bishop Shanahan on December 28th against Upper Merion Area High School in "The Upper Merion Tournament".
You don't really have to talk to any of the players on the Mars Girls Basketball team to know that they want to win another state championship in basketball after winning one last season. The nice thing for Tai Johnson is that during this season, she does not have to worry about what college she will attend. On November 15th 2018, Tai Johnson signed her National Letter of Intent to continue her academic and basketball career at Bucknell University. Bucknell University is a Division 1 NCAA school in Lewisburg, Pennsylvania. Now, there had to be moments during last season that Tai would think about which college she would attend. Even though she might have thought about it, she did not affect the thinking about college affect her game and style of play.
This season, the difference is that she does not have to think about what college she will attend and just focus on bringing another state championship to Mars High School. Mars will get some time off before playing their next game against Taylor Allderdice on January 2nd 2019.
This season, The Mars Area Girls Basketball team is playing well and The Mars Area Boys Basketball team is doing good as well. It's another good year to be a Mars Area basketball fan.
