Trinity vs. Chartiers Valley 1-3-19 Recap
The Lady Colts shoot the basketball around before the beginning of the second half.
Going into today, the girls basketball teams of Chartiers Valley and Trinity were both undefeated in section play. For Trinity, their undefeated section record has ended as they lost tonight the Colts by a score of 72-46. Trinity was looking good as they were up 10-4, in the middle of the first quarter, and then all of a sudden Chartiers Valley decided to take over and dominate by scoring a lot of points in the paint. After Trinity had a lead against one of the best teams in 5A in Chartiers Valley, they simply could not hold the fort down as they were outscored 68-36. This win for Chartiers Valley improved their overall record to 9-0 and their section record to 3-0.
Chartiers Valley player, Aislin Malcolm, hit two 3-pointers in a row during the third quarter to help the Colts have more swag and confidence throughout the rest of the game. This game was good to watch even though the score was almost lopsided. Even if Chartiers Valley does not meet their expectations for this season, they know that they are built to win for the future, as well. Late in the fourth quarter against Trinity, Chartiers Valley freshman, Perry Page, was able to score some points in the paint while transitioning to the basket to just increase the Colts lead when the game was meaningless and the whole crowd knew that they were going to win.
Something that was very noticeable in this game is the fact that both Chartiers Valley and Trinity were not big fans of shooting the 3-ball. Whenever both teams would attempt three-pointers, they would go in. Why didn't both teams shoot from three more often when they were doing so good? I am no basketball expert so I could not be able to explain. Both teams battled for the ball throughout the game as well as it seemed like at least every three possessions, two players, one from each team would wrestle like to bears to get the basketball as they would fall down.
We all need to know that Trinity is still going to compete to try and make the playoffs. Their team is young and they will get better as time progresses. There is one senior, three juniors, five sophomores and four freshman on the Trinity Girls basketball team, this season. So, basically if this team cannot win a WPIAL championship, this season, they will have time in the next couple of the years since they are expected to only lose one player, next year.
The G.O.A.T, Mike White, from the Pittsburgh-Post Gazette was at Chartiers Valley, tonight, watching the game as well and it was good to see that famous people in Sports Media, like Mike White, was witnessing the talent that the 2018-19 Chartiers Valley Girls basketball team has. I don't know why; but, at Chartiers Valley, there seems to be more students that attend the Boys basketball games than the Girls basketball games. Why? I don't know? But, I would really want to know since this Lady Colts team is doing so well.
Chartiers Valley's next game is against South Park on Saturday at home while Trinity's next game is on Monday as they play a section game at home against Reilly Sunday and the Moon Area Tigers.
