A lot of you might have heard of Tampa Bay Buccaneers wide receiver, Mike Evans. If you have heard of Evans before than you must know how good of a wide receiver he is. Just this past season, the 2018-19 NFL season, Evans recorded 86 receptions for 1,524 yards and scored 8 touchdowns. This was arguably one of Evans's best seasons ever in the NFL.
Evans is a really good wide receiver; but, there is another wide receiver that you should be familiar with who is also named "Mike Evans".
The other "Mike Evans" is a football player for Franklin Regional that plays both wide receiver and defensive back. Mike just finished his senior year of football and he was a big part of why Franklin Regional made the WPIAL football playoffs in 5A during this past season. Evans led the team in receiving yards (805) and receptions (32). Evans scored 10 touchdowns during this past season and was a key player in beating Bethel Park 56-28 in the first round of the WPIAL 5A football playoffs. Evans recorded 7 receptions for 243 yards and three of Evans's 7 receptions were touchdowns. It was too bad that the following week that Franklin Regional got shut out by Gateway 35-0.
What you got to like about Evans is how fast he is. Let me tell you, the man is pretty fast. A lot of Evans receptions were when he was covered by only one guy. If only the opposing teams coaches knew how dangerous Mike was. He would have had been double teamed more if the other team knew how fast Evans was. Honestly, it's too bad that Evans could have not played longer at Franklin Regional. His production in his senior year was so much better than his junior year (7 Receptions for 144 Yards) and his sophomore year (1 Reception for 51 yards). It shows that when Evans was given the opportunity to start in his senior year that he was able to make the best of it. It also shows every high school sports athlete that if you get the opportunity to play that you should make the best of it.
Evans currently has offers from NCAA Division 3 schools such as Juniata College, Moravian College and Westminster College. We should see Evans get some more offers later in the school year.
Evans must have had some fun times playing football at Franklin Regional as there were times that he had big games, times that the spotlight was on him and during the time that he was on the football team in his four years of high school, their overall record was 29-14 (.674). So, you know that Evans knew what it was like to play football at a school where the culture was all about winning.
