Chartiers Valley Girls basketball player, Megan McConnell, made her college decision on Saturday June 15th 2019. Megan made a verbal commitment on social media to play Division 1 NCAA Women’s Basketball at Duquesne University. The university is located about 25 minutes away from Chartiers Valley High School; so, it seems that Megan won’t be traveling far to go to college.
Megan McConnell’s Twitter Commitment Post Megan had other Division 1 offers from schools such as Saint Francis University, Bryant University, St. Bonaventure, Robert Morris University and Loyola University of Maryland. One of Megan’s older brothers, Matty, played Division 1 NCAA Men’s basketball at Robert Morris University. Her high school teammate, Mackenzie Wagner, will play basketball at Loyola University of Maryland in the winter as a freshman. Duquesne is good at picking up McConnell’s as Megan’s older brother, TJ, played his first three seasons of college basketball at Duquesne before transferring to the University of Arizona. The calendar year of 2019 has been sensational for Megan as she won another WPIAL basketball championship, won a PIAA basketball championship and has already made her college decision. Megan has already won more WPIAL (2) and PIAA (1) basketball championships than both of her older brothers (TJ and Matty) and is looking to win another WPIAL and PIAA championship next season at Chartiers Valley. The head coach of the team, Tim McConnell (Megan’s dad), will find a way to get the Colts back to one of the top teams in the state next season. Even though the Colts will lose five seniors next season, they will have other players on the team that knows what it takes to win championships. Aislin Malcolm is one of the Colts that the team will rely on next year alongside Megan. Aislin was a big factor in why the Colts won a state championship this past season and she will only be a sophomore next year. Perhaps some freshman might tryout for the team next season and become a star just like Aislin did when she was a freshman last year. Just today, North Catholic Girls basketball player, Tess Myers, committed to play basketball at Duquesne University as well. Myers will be a senior next season at North Catholic and has won 3 WPIAL basketball championships. She will look to four-peat next season. Anything can happen, maybe Myers and Megan will room together when they are both freshman at Duquesne. Megan will soon be another Chartiers Valley alumni to play a Division 1 sport at Duquesne. Dom Pocci, a 2017 CV graduate, currently plays football at Duquesne while Connor Barrett, a 2019 CV graduate, will also play football at Duquesne this upcoming fall. Kiki Thornton, a 2019 CV graduate, will run cross country and track & field at Duquesne when she becomes a freshman in the fall. Megan McConnell will be one of the Girls basketball players that the WPIAL will pay attention a lot to next season. She already knows that every time she steps on the basketball court that people expect big things from her because she is a “McConnell” and she doesn’t mind the pressure and attention.
