This upcoming football season will be the fourth straight season that Quaker Valley will have a different starting quarterback.
Quaker Valley is becoming to be more of a high school football school. More football players at Quaker Valley are starting to get recognized and the school loves every second of attention their football team gets.
Last season, Ethan Moore was the starting quarterback for the Quaker Valley Quakers. It was Moore's senior year at the high school as he threw for 1,411 yards and 10 touchdowns. This was Moore's first and only season as the team's starting quarterback. He helped the Quakers get to the 2018 WPIAL 3A football playoffs; but, in the first round of the playoffs, the Quakers lost to North Catholic by a score of 31-24. The Quakers knew with that loss that their season ended. It was a painful loss to the team as they knew that they could have won that game and perhaps go even further in the playoffs. Moore has recently graduated from Quaker Valley and will play NCAA Division 1 Men's baseball at Kent State University next school year. Moore was a good baseball pitcher while at Quaker Valley.
Two seasons ago (2017 PIAA football season), Ricky Guss was the starting quarterback for the Quakers as he helped the team win both 3A WPIAL and PIAA football championships. This was Ricky's senior year at the high school, and he played both quarterback and linebacker. This was also the only year that Guss was the starting quarterback for the Quakers. That season Guss passed for 30 touchdowns and 2,246 yards. Guss also played on the Varsity Boys basketball team while at Quaker Valley.
In the 2016 season, Quaker Valley had another starting quarterback named Amos Luptak. Luptak was a senior in 2016 and was also the starting quarterback for the Quakers the year before in 2015. Luptak did not play every game in 2016 because of an injury he suffered against Neshannock in September 2016. In Luptak's senior season (2016), he passed for 830 yards and 9 touchdowns. You might think that is pretty good; but, the year before in his junior year was so much better because he was not injured. In Luptak's junior season (2015 PIAA football season), he threw for 1,972 yards and 21 touchdowns. He currently attends Geneva College.
Quaker Valley will find another starting quarterback for next season. They will see who will be next to guide the Quakers into the playoffs. One possible candidate for the starting quarterback position is Ryan Kroner. According to the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette, Kroner was a sophomore last year and played the quarterback position. Perhaps, a rising freshman or some other student will try out to be Quaker Valley's starting quarterback next season.
We will see who will be the starting quarterback for the Quakers in the fall as they want to see themselves back in Heinz Field in November.
