With all the news about Covid-19 being talked about, at least there is some sports news that is going on. Today, the Houston Texans traded superstar wide receiver DeAndre Hopkins and a fourth-round draft pick to the Arizona Cardinals in exchange for running back David Johnson, a second-round draft pick and a 2021 fourth-round draft pick.
If you are an Arizona Cardinals fan, today is a great day. The Cardinals have only gotten stronger from here as their quarterback Kyler Murray has another weapon to throw the football to in Hopkins. For the Cardinals, they have to be fine with losing Johnson, in the 13 games that he played in 2019 (started 9 games), he rushed for only 345 yards and two touchdowns. Besides, the Cardinals traded for Kenyan Drake in the middle of the 2019 NFL regular season, so they have a running back for the future. Even though Drake will be an unrestricted free agent when free agency starts, the Cardinals will probably try to resign him. Drake rushed for 643 yards and scored eight touchdowns in the eight games that he played as a Cardinal in 2019. So, you can think that the Cardinals will try to resign him.
The NFL is a business and the Texans have saved a lot of money by trading Hopkins. But with the loss of Hopkins, the two best wide receivers that the Texans have are Will Fuller V and Kenny Stills. This past NFL season, Hopkins recorded 1,165 receiving yards and scored seven touchdowns in his last season with the Texans. Fuller V and Stills combined for 1,231 yards and seven touchdowns this past season for the Texans. The fact that Hopkins scored as many touchdowns as both Fuller V and Stills show how dominant Hopkins is. On the bright side, for Fuller V and Stills, they will probably have more of an impact for the Texans as more balls will probably be thrown in their direction unlike when Hopkins was on the team getting most of the balls thrown to him.
With the Texans addition of Johnson, they probably do not care if Carlos Hyde and Lamar Miller find different teams to play for next season as they are both unrestricted free agents heading into 2020 NFL Free Agency.
If the 2020 NFL regular season starts on time, I can tell you that the Cardinals might play more of their games on National Television due to the fact now that the Cardinals have one of the best wide receivers in the NFL in Hopkins. To me, Hopkins is so good that he can make any team better and the Cardinals are probably now thinking about playoffs as they have not made the postseason since the 2015-16 NFL season.
I bet a lot of DeAndre Hopkins Arizona Cardinals jerseys will be sold in the near future as it will probably be the most popular NFL jersey in Arizona. NFL fans cannot wait to see how the Cardinals do in 2020 with Hopkins now on the roster.
