QUESTIONS & ANSWERS:

Your team lost to Beaver in the first round of the WPIAL Playoffs last season, what have you and your team been doing this offseason to make a deeper playoff run in 2022?

Abbie Huey: We have definitely been focusing on our team chemistry. Volleyball is a team sport and the only way to win a game is coming together and working in harmony. Trusting each other on the court is what we do everyday when we step foot in that gym, and as a team leader I’ve been trying to implement that on and off the court as much as possible.

How has Track & Field helped improve your volleyball technique?

AH: Sprinting is a very explosive movement, and jumping has the same technique. Becoming a stronger athlete off the ground as tremendously helped my vertical jump for volleyball.

What's it like having a new head coach in Allison Ball?

AH: Coach Ball has stepped up and she is doing a great job. She previously played at Seton Hill, and always works with each member of the team to make sure we have our technique down.

Armstrong, Highlands and Greater Latrobe are your new conference opponents for this upcoming season. In the new WPIAL Class 3A Section 5, five of those seven teams (including Indiana) made the playoffs last season. How competitive do you expect the competition to be this season?

AH: Every game we play this year will not be easy. These games are going to be tough, scrappy, and competitive. Truly, when the games are that tense, our team plays at our best. Giving our all every single game is going to be a must if we want to reach playoffs.

What team do you wish you could play that isn't on your schedule this season?

AH: I would like to play Plum. Plum was in our section last year, we won one and lost one, and since then our team has grown. I would like a rematch!

So, how did you get interested in the game of volleyball in the first place?

AH: Being on the taller side, I was always encouraged to try out for the volleyball team. I stepped on the floor for tryouts in 7th grade, and the rest is history!

Besides playing volleyball and competing in Track & Field, what other clubs and organizations are you apart of at Indiana?

AH: I am the president of Key Club, a senior representative for Indiana Ambassadors, a senior representative for Indiana Student Government, and an active member in the community through volunteer work.

Where is one of your go-to places to eat?

AH: Chipotle! After a hard workout it always hits!

What is one song that can get you pumped up before a volleyball match?

AH: Stronger by Kanye West

In your opinion, who is the best current football player in the WPIAL?

AH: Quinton Anthony [Junior at Belle Vernon]

You can have an NIL deal with any company or place in the country. What would it be?

AH: Lululemon
