Gateway football player Derrick Davis Jr. is one step closer to deciding where he wants to further his academic and athletic career. Today, Davis Jr., who will be a senior at the fall at Gateway, narrowed his decision list down to the "Top 7" schools which include the University of Southern California, Clemson, Ohio State, Louisiana State, Penn State, Pittsburgh, and Georgia.

Davis Jr., who is considered one of the best football players in the WPIAL, has been recruited by almost every FBS school imaginable since his freshman year of high school. Some of the schools that Davis Jr. was recruited by that were not in his "Top 7" list were Notre Dame, Alabama, Baylor, Florida, Georgia Tech, Miami, Oklahoma, Syracuse, Tennessee, and many others.

Former Gateway football player Jaquan Brisker will be a senior in the fall at Penn State as he is currently on the football team. Also, Penn State's assistant football coach Terry Smith was the former head football coach at Gateway from 2002-12. Perhaps, they could persuade Davis Jr. to attend Penn State.

For Davis Jr., he has at least three goals in mind for the future that everyone could think of. The first goal is to repeat as WPIAL 5A football championships which would be his third WPIAL title, if he is able to do so. The second goal is to win the PIAA 5A football title, which would be his first PIAA title in his career. The third goal would be to pick a college to attend. He might even have other individual goals that many people don't know about.

No matter whatever decision Davis Jr. makes, everyone should respect it.
